You can figure out the rest; that's all I'm gonna say. :)

Pooga

"Regular tracker" !!!!!

What's a guy gotta do to move up in this world????

(But then again, I haven't been a 'regular' anything since I hit 200 lbs.!)

CalamityJanet

At least you qualify as a Tracker, I'm only a Regular User.

Hey, dr, will there be like a top 10 list so we don't have to check everyones profiles to see thier level?

dr

If you read the what's new page, you should have seen that the user level was added to the search user results screen… :) So I'm thinking that you should be able to use that to view all the various "levels" of people.

I'm guessing that to get to be "Site Helpers" or "Senior Helper" you need to perform some kind of service for the site. If this is true, I'm interested.

MasterRaistlin

hey dr!
I don't quite understand your system of "rank". I have more hits and more bills entered than say Jade11 but she has a higher rank than I do?

Pooga

Hey, this means more stats! And it could be graphical. So dr, how about a horizontal bar graph showing the number of users at each level? Something like:

	Newbie XXXXXXXX
	Interested Newbie	XX
	Dedicated Newbie XXX
	Senior Newbie XXXX
	Junior User XXX
	User XXXXX
	Regular User XXXXXX
	Dedicated User XXXXXXXX
	Senior User XXXXXXXXX
	Tracker XXXXXXX
	Regular Tracker XXXXX
	Dedicated Tracker XXX
	Senior Tracker XX
	Master Tracker XX
	Superior Tracker X
	Site Helpers X
 	Senior Helper X
	Site Admin X

Damn… can't get the spacing right… but you get the idea.

Pooga

And I bet ya I know where this idea came from!

Serotonin… you're the local shrink here… would you say the 'ranking' idea is dr's visual manifestation of his joy of finally being promoted to sgt.? He has become obsessed with rank, but is frustrated at being 'just' a sargeant. So he devises a system wherein he becomes the top dog again!

I said it before… when dr lost his #1 spot in the different lists, he HAD to some up with something that would make him Numero Uno again!

:-)

dr

Heh, as I said, I leave the rest for you people to figure out… but I will mention a couple of things:

  1. The ranks are not updated automatically, so don't expect to get hit #101 and suddenly jump up a rank. I have to run the rank update script, which I will do once a week or so.

  2. There is more than meets the eye when it comes to rank, but all the answers lie in the database. Which means, until I feel like revealing the true criteria, you will just have to take your best guess.

Hey, me and 2 others made the money collecting FAQ list…
Just so you dont forget.. Im on my way to read about ranks.

Sarge

I suppose it works in reverse too. Spam the Dark Site, DR gets a 'nasty-gram' from the ISP, and he knocks you down a rank or two as punishment!

<Not me Pooga. I find the site creative and constantly evolving. Most people who post strike me as being outside the bellcurve (>3 standard deviations) in intellect. Much of what is passed back and forth is hard for me to follow at times but the learning curve is gentle. For me dr is the "alpha male". He's cryptic at times but I'm not sure if that merely reflects evolving intuitive thinking that hasn't reached fruition. Hierarchical systems are intriguing because it speaks to the person who creates the system. Incidentally, most human communication (80%) is non-verbal. That's what I find fascinating about this site. As I mentioned before, I've noticed that people can be quite sensitive and easily hurt but I am struck by the simple humanity on this site.
I apologize for this scatter but I had a "tooth canal" done this PM. Pain "decides". It's been some time since there's been a run of "military talk". When I was posted to Egypt I had the "acting" rank of Major; the tender age of 23. But medical units don't really count. Those were the 'misspent days of my youth"; I don't know how I survived. Are their rules about length of postings, or a presumed etiquette? Anyways, it's nice to have you back on the site, Pooga. You sound pretty relaxed from the surf and suds.

<As I edited this it looks like the first paragraph was cut so there is a data input memory. Anyways, I was passing on my observation that most people that post and stay on this site have above average intellect (>3SD)

Pooga

For me dr is the "alpha male"…. et al

Ah, therefore, combining what you said, with the known facts regarding dr's relatively short stature, we can in all likelyhood safely assume that he is suffering from a 'Napoleon Complex'.

"Suffering" is a rather harsh term, most people with a mild form of insanity tend to enjoy it.

dr

More like "it's my site and I'll cry if I want to"… :)

But I think you'll find that I'm not really categorizable, per se…

RE:I don't quite understand your system of "rank". I have more hits and more bills entered than say Jade11 but she has a higher rank than I do?

Please dont pick on me, I have entered nearly 2000bills in less than and have over 50 hits, I work hard for my ranking.

dr

You're gonna have to trust me on this one. I do everything fairly; that is, I came up with a list of "criteria" for each of the ranks, and rank a script to automatically assign each rank to each person. If you don't like your rank, well then start "participating" in the site more. :) But trust me, it's not like I went, "Oh, Jade. I think she'll get rank X and so-and-so will get rank Y."

And so sayeth Napoleon Robertson…

… or is that dr Bonaparte?

Hmmm… didn't he start out as a corporal too?

Pooga

Well I knew Hitler was a WWI corporal, but I thought Napoleon started there as well.
