Okay, there seems to be an issue with the system dropping database connections and mixed in with a few other small issues, we seems to run into major down-time issues. So I've moved to a new connection pooling system. Let's see how this works out.
Update: I've made another change which should speed up the sending of emails (ie. anonymous email). I think this was also the cause of people registering multiple times - the sending of the verification email was slowing it down.
