whoa!!!! let her cry?? what kind of father is he?? one should not let babies cry!!! what is this world coming to??
what a cruel cruel thing to do. that would be like "forgive me for saying this but" oh I cannot think of anything worse!! LOL

But… If you pick a baby up everytime it cries.. then it knows how to get attention..
I think this is what the dad is thinking..
however with anewborn.. I doubt I would let it cry much Unless I am super tired.

You're right L.C….that was what he said……she has already learned what to do to get some attention…..but I can't stop picking her up…..I've only got another month with her in my house…..then they move to Fort St. John in northern B.C. I just won't be able to pick her up whenever she cries then…so I do it now.

Like Pavlov's Dog
Human's can be trained too
in this case it is almost reverse training.. the child cries for attention.. andgets it..
so it learns it can cry and get attention. and well taking a while might not be good.. cause at times the baby might be hungry.. or Poopy.. or wet, or… etc etc ..
after all a baby can't tell you what he/she needs
however once the patern is broken they will stop this.
but it must be broken for a while . and well taking a while might not be good.. cause at times the baby might be hungry.. or Poopy.. or wet, or… etc etc ..

it is not spoiling to give a baby or child love and attention. it is however spoiling (or just plain ruining them) to buy them anything and whatever they want when they are older just so you dont have to pay attention to them. 800 movies, 45 games for each of the 3 or 4 games systems etc etc etc.

Let's try not to get side-tracked on messages that are posted to the "www.cdn-money.com" forum; that is not for general discussion about spoiling your granddaughter or whatever. It should be a resource for trouble shooting problems. And when you get side-tracked and I have to move messages around, it wastes my time. Thanks.

I agree Antics.. you stumped me about spoiling a child when you put that in your reply.. I had to reread nearly the whole thread. of course I read yours last..
You CANNOT spoil a child by giving it attention.
You WILL spoil a child by giving it everything under the sun.
But as for giving a baby attention everytime it cries may not be a great idea, as then it is being trained by your response to it crying. As the child grows older it will learn just to cry pout and throw a temper tantrum, and it will get what it wants.
So in conjunction with my last reply. To train a baby not to cry for attention is good. To do so you may need to check it's nessessities.. Poopy, wet, think of when you fed the baby last. and Put the baby down again.
To show the baby love it doesn't need to cry for you to hold it.
Anyways this post could get to be a university paper.. and all it would revert back to is the study of Pavlov's Dog
