As a result of the past couple days event, I'm posting this friendly reminder to everyone.
This site was created to and is all about tracking the natural circulation of money. I appreciate that some users may have other reasons for hanging out here though; for example Sarge likes stats, Serotonin likes 'analyzing' us all, etc. And I realize that some people don't care what they do, they just like competing or the thrill of the chase or whatever. And that's all fine. But if your motive for being part of the site is other than tracking money, then you need to be prepared to live by how the majority of us like things. So if you're here to try and have the top score, that's cool but don't complain if I change the way scoring works, because the score system is secondary to tracking bills.
Now all that said, I'll get to the point I was trying to make. If you regularly spend money at a certain location, say a gas station or corner store or whatever, there is a good chance that the place will become what is termed a 'friendly' site; that is a location where you can spend your money and are probably guaranteed to get a hit. If that is the case, you have three alternatives. Alternative number one is to not mark the money you spend there. Alternative number two is to talk to the people at that location and ask them not to enter your bills on the site. And alternative number three is to do nothing and risk having ALL your hits removed.
It sounds harsh but it's the only fair way to do it; how do I know that you haven't gone to that location, explained the site to them and mentioned that they should enter in all your bills? Is that fair for the rest of us? And even if you haven't done that, is it fair that you find a source of hits and milk it? No. I can think of at least two cases where users have run into this and to prevent it have either used unmarked bills or asked specifically that the person not enter their bills. Remember, we want to track natural circulation, not circulation from your wallet to the corner store every time.
And be sure that you don't confuse this with natural circulation where one or more bills end up at a 'friendly' place. For example, HOGGS and Sasha both end up entering in a lot notes which result in hits because they handle large amounts of money. And that's okay because those notes arrived in their hands via natural circulation not because someone paid for a hotel room (or whatever) in cash with marked bills.
Finally, if you wish to tak offense at this message, feel free. However, nothing I said here was directed at anyone in particular nor is this message meant to be accussing anyone of cheating. It's simply a reminder that if we all play within the guidelines, we'll all end up being a lot happier.

AMEN!
I liked this site because it "was" fun; users encouraged each other and were happy for someone else's success. Competition about scores was good natured. Special hits, no matter whose they were, were acknowledged. Our situations are very different in terms of the amount of bills we have acces to, and how easy it is to get hits because of the geographic area where we live. The CMT score is always going to be skewered by external factors. It's no big deal. Some of today's postings are quite ugly. PLEASE RELAX FOLKS. Users have many motivations but surely we can, in dr's famous phrase 'play nicely'.
Well said dr. I'm not sure how many people here keep tabs of others' hits, stats, etc, but I have had some users enter high numbers of my bills (double digits in one case) and in all cases the users come across many bills in a given day. However, none of these are even in my town, nor towns I have ever been to. Now, it is true though that some places can become hit 'friendly' and I have ensured none of the workers at these places will enter copious amounts of my bills. In fact, I even get my own bills back from them on occasion. They know what the site is all about. Some situations will arise when you have to spend numerous small bills in one location if that's all you have (though as someone pointed out, the higher the amount, the less likely it is those would usually be paid off in small bills). But as long as we stick to what dr has said I think everyone can enjoy all aspects of the site. And a fun site it is!
I also do not think it fair to someone to avoid providing business to a place because a member is there. I for one do have a business and would not like to have people not spend money they normally would or go to a competitors, because I enter bills. that is not fair to me. If someone happened to regularly spend money here, I would not enter their bills every time. the problem is though that I want to know where "ALL" the money goes that comes through here. provided someone enters it of course. i dont know if it is possible but maybe there could be a way to enter those marked bills we receive through natural means (i get quite a few from the bank too) without the person getting a hit? I dont know if it could be done or not.
All I have to say is that I like it the way you work it.
Don't change anything.
Thanx
antics has an interesting idea there.
IF there was a way for either the hitter or the hittee to check off an "Enter this bill, but do not enter as a hit" type of statement, dr's workload would be much less. Of course we would have to depend on either the knowledge of the hitter or the honesty of the hittee.
Any comments on this idea???
I thought about that too, but, too much info for a person entering their first bill may be frustrating.
I thought about that idea also, but it too is subject to abuse. Say, for example, I come across one of my arch rival Pooga's notes through natural circulation. I want to enter it, but I don't want that beer-drinking freak (just kidding) to get a hit from me. So I check the "no hit" checkbox and he doesn't get what should be a legitimate hit.

Still- it's better than not entering the bills at all, after all we're talking about abuse where large numbers of bills are dumped and entered. There may vindictive people OUt there, but not at this site:). Even if there were, I would much rather lose a CMT point, than miss a waypoint on a bill's travels.
I have read and understand what DR is saying and will abide by all that goes with this site and will immediately remove the statement the (thrill of the chase) from my profile!!! LOL. Because it is much more to me besides that. I really like the people I have met and the uniqueness of this site. I look forward to every hit and hope that my bills will be found in BC and all across Canada. I can't just disappear off this site because I am an addicted old fool. So to me there are a multiple of reasons why I am involved. In my position in my place of business i need to have a large amount of fives to trade off to drivers when they run out. Through the evening the drivers are given 20's and they run out of small change. I stamp all the fives and they are there in the street right off the get go. Antics has a point and maybe something can be done about that but if not……well……hey antics if I am in the area i will come to your shop and give you one five (marked of course) and my debit card for the rest of the purchase…LOL…
I dont take debit cards and no longer take credit cards. this business is too seasonal. i can take paypal however. or checks. and of course cash in any denomination, marked or unmarked. i prefer of course unmarked. :o)

Any system you put in place to curb abuse will always have someone that trys to circumvent it. I kinda of agree with the logic of tracking a waypoint on a bill's journey. Any system you put in place to curb abuse will always have someone that trys to circumvent it.
Glad to hear that you are "an addicted old fool" and have chosen to hang around….. :8)

Hmmm, PayPal, now that is interesting. I take Visa, MC, Amex and debit at my small business. Lately though I have notice a drop off in "card" transactions, come to think of it transactions period….. Bills, I need bills…. Anyone got some spare bills (unmarked of course)… Maybe that should be my motto..
This would take a fair amount of programming DR… if it is possible..
but..
how about.. for bundles..
when a bill is entered by a user that is a hit.. that same user cannot give the same person who he gave a hit to for 24 hours.. it will count as a bill entered .. and show thw way point on the bill.. but not towards a hit?
even with knowing programming it really doesn't sound to easy to do.. , but… with enuff thought into it ic could be done.. it is like the max entree of bills entered. with a twist..
that same user cannot give the same person who he gave a hit to for 24 hours.. it will count as a bill entered ..
Except that some people save the marked bills for a few days until they have time to get to a computer, or if the site is down. That would pusish a person who had multiple bills end up in one location.
How about just a hittee check? Still open for abuse I know, but not confusing for newbies.
well the site doesn't really go down very often.. & when it does it comes up pretty quick usually ..
and even when the site is down and people come back give multiple hits, dr will end up taking the multiples out anyways..
this would make it so the bill stays on both peoples lists.. and in the future both people can receive hits, but the original user would only get 1 hit from a bundle… which i think is fair..
And actually if DR were to do this amazing programming,
he could run it though all the bills already entered, and it would cut alot of "bundled" hit out.
I wonder what kind of changes that would make to the monthly hit list.. :) i think it would be very interesting.
Interesting indeed!!
I never even thought of that initially.. but it would make less work in the long run, but the programming would be tricky as i have said B4!!!
Im glad to hear you just cant disappear maggiemae your friendly presence would be sorely missed around here if you left! & I wish you luck in getting your bills to all across Canada!!
:o)
