Newfoundland penny |
Sorry if this is too far off-topic, but readers of this site might be interested: yesterday in Vancouver I received a 1944 Newfoundland one-cent piece in my change. It's the same size and colour as a Canadian penny. Is it likely that this coin has just been circulating for 63 years without anyone noticing that the Newfoundland currency ceased to exist?
Or were Newfoundland coins (and bills) accepted in the rest of Canada for some period after 1949?
Technically is this coin still legal tender in Newfoundland, if not elsewhere?
