Strangest place? How about at work?
This was about 1977 or so... Working at the brewery, I was on the production line at the time. I was on the uncaser, which is a saw blade under a conveyor belt that cuts off the bottom of the bottle cases. The cardboard goes one way and the bottles another. We always found interesting things in the debris tray, like coins and tools and keys.
Anyways, the cardboard was baled, palletized and stored in an outdoor compound. One day while loading a truck with these pallets, I happened to notice a one dollar bill on the ground. I jumped off the forklift and looked around a bit more and very quickly found a couple of twenties! So here I had $41 in a couple of minutes... at a time when a good wage was $4 an hour. Needless to say, when I showed it to the guys in the lunchroom, everyone was out there combing through the cardboard! Only one more dollar bill was found.
But it does make me wonder what idiot threw $40 in a beer case and does he ever wonder what happened to it???
